Having a website is a great way to get your name and business information out there. But simply having a website, and creating a successful one, are two very different things. A key element is to incorporate a blog within your website.
Creating a successful business blog is not something that you have to do alone or without guidance. Instead, you can create a blog that that is both interesting and eye catching to the reader with a few simple tips.
Here are just some of the features that you may want to consider to get your business blog working for you.
Have a Purpose
Your blog posts should not be written without a purpose in mind. You need to have a clear understanding of the message you want to convey and, more importantly, delivering the information your readers are seeking. Start with the end in mind.
Regularity
When it comes to writing blog posts, it is important to be consistent. Not only should you write a post when something important happens in your business, but you should also write regularly – perhaps on interesting and relevant evergreen topics. These can be prepared in advanced and scheduled to released on dates in the future so you can create – or order – a package of them for future publication. This is a great way to ensure you are publishing posts regularly.
Don’t leave long time gaps between posts or your readers will not “check in” to see what new information you’ve published. That is to say that a blog that is updated with quality, relevant, new posts weekly or fortnightly is likely to keep readers engaged and coming back for more.
If you only post sporadically or with long intervals between, then you are likely to lose readers because they will inevitably find another source of information and news. This can lead to a loss in revenue or — even worse — sending the wrong message about the professionalism and reliability of your business.
Ability to Share
Sharing is an important part of spreading information about a topic quickly. If you are working on a blog and want it to catch on and gain regular readership, be sure to provide the means for it to be shared. Provide links to different social media sites within your blog so that readers can share quickly with their network of friends.
Sharing is a part of the success game but your readers may not go out of their way to share the link without prompting. Do not make them do the hard work alone by providing all of the links they need, through the use of plugins that create sharing icons.
And remember to do your own sharing. If you have a WordPress site there are great plugins to allow your posts to be shared on social media as soon as they are published.
