Great blog content is the product of two key components: a good idea and time. How and where you can find either, however, can be a problem. We are going to share some ways in which you can not only find inspiration for your next great post, but even save time writing it.
Be Open To Unexpected Sources
It may not seem like it now, but each and every day new and exciting potential blog topics are crying out for your attention. Open your mind to different topic possibilities and make note of them as you see or think of them (through a voice recording, in a notes app, scribbled on a napkin, etc.). If possible, snap some photos that will help support your idea or that will serve as further inspiration.
It’s also useful to write down where the idea came from so that you have a reference point when you do sit down and write the content. The idea may have come from:
- The media (television/radio/newspaper story)
- Social media comments
- A brochure
- A news website
- A competitor’s website
- A supplier’s website
- A conversation you had (write down who the conversation was with, what the topic of the conversation was, how you arrived at the idea, etc.)
- Something you walked past
Recognizing great ideas is a skill and it may take time to hone in on which topics are worth exploring and writing about. Over time finding content ideas that will attract and maintain your readership will become second nature to you. Be patient, try out different ideas, and monitor the results.
Making The Time To Take Action
The next step of the process is finding the time to write the post. Devote at least a couple of “blogging only” hours each week so that you can focus solely on generating great content. If you have taken detailed notes, then you may only need half an hour to produce blog-worthy content. You will also save a lot of time each week by:
- Writing blog posts in batches
- Repurposing existing content
- Scheduling your blogs to be posted in advance
