Part of getting people to notice your business is to get them talking. In today’s technologically-focused world, that means sharing your content with individuals via their networks of online friends and internet-based communities.
The most popular manifestations of this type of environment is social media. Social media platforms have been designed for this type of activity, but not all content is shared and not all content deserves to be shared – simply because it fails to meet the expectations of those who see it – your ideal clients/customers.
So how do you fix that?
Here are three tips for writing relevant and shareable content for your business website.
1. Catch Them From the Get Go
One of the first things that you need to do to get people to even consider sharing your information and content is to actually get them to see your content in the first place. This sounds simple enough but can be very difficult – just think about the millions in the long daily list of posts, Tweets, and photos.
For that reason, you need to stand out and get people invested from the moment that they start scrolling. One of the best ways to do this is to create a headline that draws them in. Using popular or trending topics, making plays on words, or adding big and bold statements are just a few of the ways that you can do this.
A headline is the first thing that a reader will see and it needs to engage them instantaneously. If not, you may find yourself getting lost in the fray.
2. Use Images
Whether you want to share a blog post, your webpage, or another bit of information, it is important to harness the power of images. A single image accompanying your post can greatly impact the click through rate and is likely to result in more conversions than a lengthy and wordy post alone. Both the mind and the eyes need to be treated to something in order to be shared.
In a long list of posts, an image has an increased likelihood of catching a reader’s attention and inviting them to engage further. Adding a picture – photo, illustration, diagram, infographic – to your posts can greatly increase the chances of having people share your posts and increases the likelihood of spreading your name and brand recognition. It allows for creativity, too!
3. Read What You Share
If you want a post to be read and to be shared, then you need to actually read and engage with your work. Read it again and again to see if it makes sense, is interesting, and provides quality – a benefit – to the reader. If you are not reading your posts and simply ‘generating’ them, your readers will notice the lack of enthusiasm and interest that you have.
The result is going to be something that is not shared, and may, in fact, send the wrong message about your business.
