An engaging blog is one that has great content – and I don’t mean just written content. From creating immediate interest, to backing up or supporting the point you’re hoping to get across in your posts, quality images are a must-have for anyone who is looking to have a successful content marketing campaign.
Here’s the problem: None of us are good at everything, and oftentimes those who have been blessed with the gift of writing are lacking that same level of talent when it comes to artwork and design. If you publish blog posts for businesses (your own, or your employer’s), and you’re not artistically inclined (like me!), I’ve found another tool that can help you.
With Canva, virtually anyone of any skill level and taste can create high quality images in a shorter amount of time than they would ever expect. To illustrate (pun intended) the fact, I created a new Facebook cover for my business page, using Canva. Now, I know a graphic artist may have done a much finer job, but, hey – this one (above) didn’t cost me a cent, and because I used one of the Canva Facebook templates, the dimensions were correct.
So, why should you try Canva?
1. It’s So Easy You Can Do It Blindfolded – Almost
Canva is loaded with a variety of custom layouts, images, and 100s of fonts from which to choose, all of which can easily be searched, dragged, and then dropped right onto your online “canvas”. All of the tools are right there in one place so you don’t get caught up clicking around and trying to remember what tool could be found where. The learning curve for this tool is extremely short, which is an absolute necessity since anyone in charge of a content marketing campaign is likely already short on time.
2. Easily Edit your Images to Perfection
Canva boasts over six quadrillion options when it comes to photo editing. While this may sound overwhelming to the photo editing laymen, they make the editing process incredibly easy and allow you to get as basic or advanced with your editing as necessary. Take advantage of features such as tint, blur, saturation, contrast, vignette, x-process and more.
3. It’s Free
Royalty free images will cost you money – sometimes quite a bit – and you’ll often find them being used on others’ websites as well – and we’re all about original and unique content here. On Canva there are hundreds of free images and fonts that will fit the bill for your content marketing campaign. I recommend you play around with it and see what it has to offer, and then share your finished or “work in progress” designs directly through Canva with clients, co-workers – whoever you want – without needlessly suffering through back and forth email communications.
Unique images are great for SEO and will boost not just the engagement of your blog posts, but also the search engine love it will receive. You can even share your image on other sites, like Pinterest, and link back to your blog post….. so many options!
You can use Canva to create Social Media headers, blog graphics, presentations……
But its always best to design your graphic around the topic of your post, so get the written part done, then create a graphic to suit.
